Why are people obsessed with anonymous?

Lately I've been reading a lot of articles and watching videos about "Anonymous". It seems like to me it's a bunch of kids with dictionaries and a little bit of knowledge of DDoSing. Because that's all they can do. They DDoS a company and call it a "triumph". And now they're asking people to protest so Ben Bernanke will step down. I really doubt the chairman of the Federal Reserve would step down because hackers told people to protest. Don't get me wrong, something has to change because right now America is falling apart. But this probably isn't an effective way. I think Anonymous should step it up if they want to get the Government's attention. Because I have yet to see anything about Anonymous on the news.
